I think we're missing an issue here, and that is, the ratings of our players reduce greatly the effectiveness of fakes, both without and without the 5 yard rule. IF the WR1 fakes, his M2M defender is rarely faked because all our defenders have IN ratings much closer to the top of the 0-99 IN range.
Back in the old school leagues where players with good athletic ratings but 50-something to 60-something IN were common, and some GMKs didn't pay much attention to low IN on CBs and LBs, etc. those players were faked out a LOT more. The cover guy for WR1 was faked often, allowing the WR1 to get open a LOT more. And when WR2 ran a route very close to WR1, the cover guy for Wr2 was faked out quite often, leafing to passing plays with obscenely high comp0letion rates. So the combination of this play design tactics AND the low IN defenders leads to highly unrealistic results that caused the use of the 5 yard rule to prevent blatant abuse of fakes.
Our defenders with 85-99 IN will be faked out much less often. Even without the 5 yard rule.

@Dean - this is exactly why I've said I believe we will see greater variation in gameplay, stats and scoring once we have more variance in player ratings.

Drop DB and LB IN/DI by 20% and see what happens. Imagine if the CB3 with IN/DI in the 60/70s was matched up against a WR1.

Re: Offensive Passing Play Rule Change Recomendation
If Dean is right and the mentals of our players is generally pretty high, then we won't see an unrealistic amount of successful fakes.
But to have no defender ever get faked out because we have legislated it out of the league, seems unrealistic to me.
I know it will be painful for a coach to see it, but a defender being fooled and you being burnt for 40 yards should be part of the game.

Your 80 SP rookie WR has these stats in 2 games:
Olave 7 96 13.7 44 0
WR5 89 Chris Olave OK R 0-0 0 80 86 91 66 95 91 94 95
This may be an early indication of how our experiment in changing rookie ratings will work out.

I think the key would be to reduce SOME, not all, rookies by 10-20 percent in IN and/or DI. This way the 68 IN 72 DI CBs gets might cover the 81 SP WR with 93 IN and 95 DI and see how that works.

I suspect that to be the case because not only did the week 1 version of the SF fake plays test poorly in completion percentage, but when I created some that blatantly violated the 5 yard rule, the WR1 and WR2 were less than a yard apart, the numbers did not improve. This tells me our players with their high 80s to mid 90s IN/DI are rarely fooled by fakes.

@Dean - which would match the NFL where physical attributes between players are narrower than IN, DI and EN.

We already get guys open by 20 yards in the game. We don't need to create. That being said I think we should look at adjusting IN DI but I want test before we do major changes. I also think this should be a slow process because we already hitting physicals hard. We also hit mental abilities we are adjusting to many things at once. Anyone that has to adjust anything especially something that is working well you don't adjust most than one knob at once. you also get time after adjustment before messing with things.

Can one of the commishes speak on what is now being allowed so I don't waste my time creating anything that will be rejected.
What 'throw a fakes' are we allowing right now?
