I am sure we all have different ones but mine is pretty simple.

If they aren't worth a contract, aka, I am going to cut and try to resign them. I tag them.

Restricted: I generally do the best player who spent time on PS or is on that level of a player. But it really is a player who isn't really in future plans but can add depth.

Transitional tag. Rich is right on retiring players with no contract If not a retired player, then for me it is usually a k, P, TE2 or FB.

The thing to remember is you don't have to use your tags. It can be cheaper to sign them than to tag them. If teams keep bidding only 2 point it sill cna be a cheap 1 year contract.
