I favor abolishing points, severely scaling back AA, and using a hard enforceable salary cap with both a floor and a very hard ceiling.

Re: Reinstate FBPro Computer Aging
Interesting that suddenly some folks want to rein in vets and stiffen the cap even though the league is as competitive as it has ever been. Games are tighter and harder to win each week. The real issue in my opinion is not the AA. It has been the slow softening of the cap that folks won't touch but talk about a harder cap.
1. Point trading circumvents the cap and allows vets to get moved around more.
2. Zero point bidding during the season takes away from the cap and lets vets get picked up easier
3. PS expansion and keeping all contract years. Takes away from the cap and allows teams to stash young players and not make the true decisions to have a vet or the developmental players.
These three small changes are what has contributed to the extra vets around I believe and what should be changed first and evaluate the impact over time. Do people really want rosters to move to really larger spreads? Be careful what you wish for. Seems it would be less competitive and contrary to other opinions, 99.9 % of NFL players are similar in individual output. Yes there are fast but weaker LB's and the opposite, but overall, the players are almost the same from a game impact perspective. We also cannot mimic the intangibles that actual differentiate a lot of the Hall of Famers. The NFL does everything to narrow the team talent gap and folks here want to widen it a bunch. Seems a highly competitive league where there are some roster decisions and coaching has an impact every week is better to me. Do we really want the worse teams to have no chance every week? I have said this a million times. While Rich is great at rosters and PPPs, it was his roster that was the actual big hurdle back in the day. I used to sim a ton and it is a 100% fact that I could swap PPPs and still lose 95% of the sims. It was roster, roster, roster. Do yo really want to go into a week knowing you have no way to coach a win outside the lucky chance of turnovers and weather?
We are in a great place right now as James points out. Rich has explained a small tweak with minimal affects that just continues what we are already doing and should hurt nothing. The small group that thinks we can create the Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes need to remember that in the PNFL the same teams already end up with the most talent. Rating changes will not alter that. The Rich's of the PNFL world will continue to have the best rosters. Just the way it is. I know on my end the games are as difficult as ever from a week to week perspective. Why do teams want to cut their own throats. Enjoy the ride of actually having to coach each week to win.

I am assuming the use of the term "the cap" here is viewing the points allocated each season as a functioning cap. Assuming that this will be our cap and we are not going back to using a salary cap, I would raise the following points regarding the points Jerry made:
Point trading doesn't circumvent the cap, it simply allows some coaches to voluntarily lower their cap by trading points to teams who want to raise their cap by trading for points. Teams on EITHER side of this equation could be making wise or unwise moves by making such trades. You could argue that both sides of the NYG-ATL points for draft picks trade did not spend those points wisely because ATL should use the points for long term contracts for some of their best players and NYG should let some "depth" type players go to FA rather than sign a long list of 1-year contracts for 2.5 points each. These are all debatable. If one wants to block points trading to prevent teams from making poor trades with points, then why not also ban trading of players to protect some GMs that make unwise trades? I don't think most of us want to restrict trading or ban trading of points. I think we can have a hard cap using the points system without banning points trading.
Zero point bidding weakens the cap because teams needing players to fill spots can sign 0 point FAs to fill spots after they have spent all their points filling not enough of their roster spots. We should look at how zero point bidding is being used. Is it addressing needs and functioning as a safety net for teams, or is it being used more by the most "wealthy" teams using it to game the system. If it is more the latter, it should be severely regulated or eliminated.
I'm not sure what keeping all contract years regarding PS is about. If teams are stashing good young talent on PS, maybe PS poaching needs to be easier and able to be done for fewer points by teams that have more need to do this. If it becomes more easy to pluck players off PS, teams will "hoard" fewer players on PS.

I am not saying this isn't something we shouldn't look at but let see where other things go first. We have made a couple adjustments and the league is going amazing. Give them a couple season. I appreciate people trying to remove the fun from the league. We almost never undo bad rules so lets not take our time before we puts rules in

Could we restricted this to players 3 year or under?

Ok after thinking on Jerry's post this is my idea
1.Drop Free Agent purge to 4 if they have a 4 that means they sat a whole season without getting resigned after a rookie contract
2. Restrict 0 point bids to 3 years or under in the file. These are undrafted or draft players cut during their rookie contract.( This is meant so people don't have to to borrow to fill out a team.) Heck with this restriction you don't even have to limit to in season.
3. Remove Transferring of rolls
Even if you just do the top 2 it would make a huge difference.
