With cuts coming and some prior thread talk it seems to be a good time to discuss and potentially change any personnel rules before the SNS is pushed. The point of the discussion is the Salary Cap system. We instituted the current dollar version of the salary cap two seasons ago. We used the points component to provide a FA signing system and soft cap pushing a decade of time.
What is every else's opinion? I was a proponent of it two seasons ago, but now I see some of the pitfalls others brought up before we implemented it. Reduced trading and complication. I believe the lack of trading is obvious and we are down two owners and the cap dollar portion of the cap seems to be more work and less fun as well as an additional learning curve to keep and attract new owners. I'm now of the opinion we should eliminate the dollars and go back to the points system that served us well for a very long time. As noted in a previous thread by Shawn I think, why change it if it isn't actual broke. The dollars may have done that in some respects. Simpler seems to have been better based on my observations. Please provide you input.

Re: PNFL Salary Discussion
We should simplify the system but I'm not sure how to do that. There is enough player talent on all our rosters that games should be won more by coaching than GMing. But in the 98 game they increased dramatically the random factors in the game over how they worked in the 94-95-96-97 versions of FBPro, perhaps making the game produce results a bit too random.

Re: PNFL Salary Discussion
Leave it alone. Two or three seasons in, only means contracts are just starting to expire. Give this system 7-10 game years to truly evaluate its success. As we go along I think trading will become a more viable option for teams to address legitimate needs, which will increase over time with the trend of rookie classes. Let the whole thing work as a complete package and then see where we’re at.
Focus current efforts on getting the draft pool released so people can scout it. That should help speed up the draft when it starts also.
Just my 2 cents.

I am in favor of leaving things alone, but will go with the majority, heavily weighting how much work it would take Rich to recalibrate everything.
I also believe that trading will increase season over season as the Draft Pool spreads out the attributes. You have seen the spreads in attributes widen over the past two Drafts, and you will see more in the next Draft. The value of #1 picks will continue to go up, and if you want a young super-star, they will be sparse, but there will be a bunch of players in the center of the pack. Since I am using a double-random method for attributes within position, not every position will only have one premium player, nor is there assurance that there will be one.
As in the past, I intend to have the Draft Pool ready for release right after the Super Bowl. Good luck to New York

Re: PNFL Salary Discussion
Leave cap alone, continue to differentiate the player ratings... this will create more interest in trading, roster development and over all GM portions of the game
