Gentlemen, I would like to propose a new schedule for next year and get your feedback. Knowing that Rich spends days, if not weeks, formulating the schedule for inter-divisional and inter-conference games, then adds the other conferences, I would like to propose something simpler, and more competitive! I would like to see all teams play all other teams.
I have developed a matrix that I have shared with Rich that lets all teams play all other teams, save one, which you would play the following season, and drop a different team. The matrix also has you playing in the opposite stadium the following season. This schedule allows you to see all other teams, which our current schedule does not. On a personal note, I would like to play every team every season.
I know that there will be arguments about the purity of the conference and the division, but reality is that we have not had that purity since the first few seasons of the league. In this regard, we do not resemble the NFL, so why should we stick to the current standard? Why would it hurt to change?
Your opinion is welcome, but I would ask you to remain on topic, and be constructive.

Re: New Schedule Proposal
I am serious tired of this pick and choose when we are NFL like. There is a very good reason to play teams in the division twice and everyone in the conference. It allows to get a better idea who should make the playoffs. This idea isn't about being more competitive.
The schedule has been plug and play for over 10 years. Rich is the one that want to change it

Re: New Schedule Proposal
James, this is not my idea and I did not put Charlie up to it.
I have no problem speaking for myself.
Charlie asked me tonight and I said it was suggested before and rejected.
It may have been me suggesting this a few years back just to change it up.
But, I do not care either way. If coaches want the schedule as is, that is fine.
If coaches want some change and playing 16 different teams, that is also fine.
The work involved (not days/weeks) is the same either way.
So, stick to the question, make your points for the con side and leave me out of it.

Re: New Schedule Proposal
There is a lack of symmetry in the current schedule that is eliminated by what Charlie is proposing. As an 18-team league, we can not be as NFL-like in this area as we might want to be. Unless someone has the money to buy the code for FBPro98 and patch it to allow a 32-team league, and then recruit enough coaches to fill it, we are not going to be NFL-like in regard to the schedule.
AFC East and NCF East teams play 6 divisional games, 5 teams from the other division in their conference and 5 teams from the other conference.
AFC West and NCF West teams play 8 divisional games, 4 teams from the other division in their conference and 4 teams from the other conference.
If we want to still play divisional team twice per season, the games from the other conference can be rotated from season to season, instead of using strength of schedule, and in 3 seasons ever team plays ever other team and still plays divisional teams twice per season.
I think Charlie is trying to think outside of the box with this idea and it's a good idea.

Re: New Schedule Proposal
This was the thread I created 3 years ago that Charlie resurrected tonight.

Nobody who commented 3 years thought the idea was that outlandish.
Yet, coaches were afraid to lose the traditional NFL feel.
I want what the 17 coaches want.

Re: New Schedule Proposal
I like the idea and all, but it's a hard no. Needs to remain NFL-like where teams play each division opponent twice.
Really we need software to create the schedule and to make it even more NFL-like, where the non-conference games specifically pit one division against another and alternate the opposing division yearly. By doing this every team should end up playing every other team in the league, except maybe one or two teams, within two years.

If we play everyone, then you still get 3 or 4 divisional games and 8 conference games so the tiebreakers still work.
I’m fine with the idea.

Still old fashioned and like the sense of division rivals and competing against them. I have no want to see every other team more. Makes the internal games of the division and conference mean a little more. I would say no.

Re: New Schedule Proposal
I can see it both ways. I think the 2 divisional games are important for deciding who wins the division. It builds a sense of rivalry with your own specific divison.
What charlie is proposing is more fair, and you dont get punished for being good last year, or rewarded for sucking. You also cant get lucky just playing in a terrible division and getting an easy schedule that way.
I would vote yes on Charlies idea

Re: New Schedule Proposal
How about you just play everyone in your conference twice and top four teams from the conference make the playoffs? This is closer to the NFL than a complete round robin and is a bit of a compromise. This gives us 16 games and you stay in your conference. You also play your division games twice.
