I don't see the need for this change and no one said that we are doing away with the salary cap permanently. I think Rich said it was up to him and Charlie if they bring it back and it's no forgone conclusion that it's gone for good.
Could someone please explain what the difference is between cutting a player and resigning him IN season and cutting a player and resigning him during Free Agency? You cut, if you attempt to resign, the rest of the league has 24 hrs to outbid you.

Re: FA rule proposal to eliminate circumventing restructuring costs
FA is a set time and date with everyone on the same page. In season, at 12AM with a cut and resign in 30 secs is abusing the rules. Everyone has real life commitments and not watching every 24 hours. It is dirty. It is trying to steal a 2 year restructure for 1 point instead of 4. Not against the rules, but not ethical either.

Re: FA rule proposal to eliminate circumventing restructuring costs
I think we can let people resign them, just put in a delay to give everyone a chance to see the cut since we are not NFL franchises with staff and have real life commitments. This is meant to be a game and not a daily job itself. In my opinion, outside the preseason FA period it would make sense to do a 24, 48, or 72 hour delay before the cutting team can bid while all others can still bid at any time. If a layer sits thru the period with no bids and the original team comes in with the 1 point bid, then so be it. We at least gave a valid chance to everyone and the player must not have presented a value to anyone else.
Simple, still allows the practice, but puts some common sense to it.

We could put a week delay between a cut and sign (same player only) then setup a waiver wire system where the lowest record teams have priority.

Re: FA rule proposal to eliminate circumventing restructuring costs
Thought about waiver, but the idea is to not add any work to it. The small delay is a kinda waiver system anyway. A waiver would also need everyone to have to answer the cuts. That would again add issues for real life. Just want to wash a little dirt off the practice and not actually add another "system" or need to put time in.

Re: FA rule proposal to eliminate circumventing restructuring costs
How about a simple rule adjust:
“Newly cut players are eligible for FA bids 24 hours after the timestamp on the cut. Any bids before that time will be deleted.”
Effectively doubles the cut-and sign time to 48 hours.

Re: FA rule proposal to eliminate circumventing restructuring costs
I assume you mean that for only the team who cut him.
If Dean cuts a player, nothing stops Justin from signing him 5 minutes after the cut is posted?
There also would need to be a time of the season applies as well.
It seems silly to me that we need extra rules for this.
I think the market handles it already.
If the player is too good, someone will see it and bid on him.
If the player sucks, then the coach who does this is getting a 2 year deal for 1 point.

I agree the market will get it right, but the midnight cut and instant resign blocks folks and goes unseen by many not letting the market have a chance to work. If it is really a risk for the cutting team. lets make sure the risk does apply.
