RED Zone

If we changed the Offensive and Defensive profiles to 20 yards for Field Goals, how would that affect our game? Like / dislike the idea?

I like the thought of a "truer" Red Zone. However, I don't know if it's worth making a change.

If we moved the FG line up to the 20, here are a few things to consider:

- Teams would only be able to attempt FGs under 38 yards since the middle of the field would stretch from 21 to 21.

- It would likely cause fewer 4th down attempts since coaches won't know if they are going for it on their own 21 yard line or their opponent's 21 yard line.

If we split the difference, we could move the FG line to the 25. That would still allow FG attempts of 42 to 43 yards. Even then... Is it worth it?

Hate it. It was an oversight in the software when they went with only 3 options away from the GL, but why change one issue for another. Lets just play ball with our 25 year old software.

Actually it would be Def 20 to Off 35. The adjusting of the FG range doesn't effect the other end of the field. It would actually make it from 35 to 21.

We don't have a rule stating a limit on FG range do we? To me this should be a personal decision for each coach. IF it's worth it to the coach, move it up. If it's not worth it, leave it alone. I think it really depends on what the philosophy and personality of the coach is as to whether they would consider it. As my kicker has been truly horrible lately, I might consider forgoing FG's altogether. But, I might consider moving mine up.

@Matt - I didn't realize it only adjusted 1 side of the field. Thanks!

I asked my coaching staff for their thoughts on the change. My defensive coaches love the idea of being able to call defenses to match a shortened field. They would have to worry about the mismatches at between the 35 and 50 yard line nearly as much.

Is this a setting we can customize in our own profiles or is this setting dictated by league rules?

Dean. Its the field goal yardage in the profile editor that is being discussed. I just do not want an mandate on it. We can already change it to 20 yards to change that part of the profile situation. I just do not want to have to.

Wow... I thought it was a league rule to set the FG line at the 35.

I just had a "I was today years old" moment...

I agree with Jerry on this one. I say leave it up to each individual coach.
