Charlie - I volunteer to review all PPPs each week for violations. Just have all teams send me their PPPs by Noon EST on Thursday and I will send you and Rich the approved PPPs by Saturday night.

That will give me ample time to prepare for my game, I mean, review the PPPs. Ha!

There are plenty of DL that drop into zones so I don't see an issue with using the work around to make plays act more like NFL plays.

Simce these plays work so well, it doesn't sound like we need to create new defenses. It sounds like we need to create offenses to beat them.

Creating new plays offense or defense has always been the answer to successful plays and plays we've seen become overly popular. The answer is in the play editor not modifying rules or deleting plays.

If you know a team is deploying those defenses, loading up pass plays that throws right into the teeth of those defenses isn't smart football. There are no unbeatable plays in either the defense or offense play pool.

I have been holding my ton. DL in zone coverage was a big with Steelers and Ravens back in the day. I still hold the 2-DL rule wasn't realistic. 2-DL shouldn't be the judgement of where a play belongs or if it should be restricted. It should be how man players are in pass coverage and how many players are defending the line. 2-DL plays weren't the problem. It was offensive play calling that was the problem. Coaches didn't adjust or actually take time to learn how to attack them. 2-DL is very beatable if you take time to learn how to beat it. I dealt with it for years in XFBS.

Thanks to Mr. Hill for making this a topic in this week’s broadcast. I wouldn’t have known about it otherwise.

My 2 cents:

1) DL dropping back into zones has historically been done in the NFL as part of zone blitzes. I think if we require 3 LOS defenders, it keeps them realistic. We should continue to allow DEs to use zone logic only if we also enforce the 3 LOS defender rule.
2) Maybe we consider requiring one of the three LOS defenders to have run rush aggressive, move to across the LOS, pass rush or blitz logic on plays if any DE goes into a zone. This would make it behave more like a true zone blitz.
3) We should limit DE zones to one player. No more plays with 2 or more DLs executing zones.
4) In the next offseason, all plays in violation of the current 3 LOS defenders requirement should be purged from the pool.

In defense of the XFBS, we were a college league so I tried to be more flexible. Plus, allowing 2 DL plays kept Rob Boysen active. He was the master of 2 DL defenses. His departure from the PNFL and retirement from FBPRO was likely influenced by the restrictions placed on 2 DL defenses in the last remaining FBPRO league that allows custom plays. I think if we require 3 LOS defenders for all 2 DL defenses and further require one LOS defender to go into the backfield if any DLs use zone logic, we won’t need to restrict the number of 2 DL plays anymore. We would have to purge some 2 DL plays to achieve this though.

I do know that Rob also didn’t like doing GM work so his departure wasn’t only attributed to 2 DL restrictions.

Strictly enforcing the 3 men defending the LOS rule, including on all old plays, and in exchange for eliminating the limits in 2 DL defensive play usage as long as all (including those) have 3 men defending the LOS...I would support and vote for that modification of the rules.

I would also vote for Rob coming out of retirement and rejoining the PNFL. He could coach Denver, the team would no longer by The Headless Horseman.

He could design the new round of 2 DL defenses, with three men defending the LOS, if we change the rules.

I think we are fine as is with the rules. Charlie already enforces the 3 LOS part and the plays are beatable. Even the true 2 DL.
