No play calls without the play type in the plan. Game just calls it.

Matt, Jerry, and I researched this issue many seasons back and determined that it is a flaw in the game with no resolution! I had forgotten about it until I saw it called in my game Friday night. I just spent the morning purging my game plans (changing GLP to something else, then running 20 Sims to see if GLP shows up, and then more purging). Make sure that you check Extra Point conversions! If you use GLP in your Extra Point conversion defense and delete all those plays in your game plans, I am unsure what the game will default to. To my detriment, I just spent last week developing four new GLP plays (Week #14 Custom Plays), which I will now never use.

Re: What We Have Here is Failure to Communicate
Just a theory…
Occasionally on third and fourth down, the game simulates a missed play call, by selecting a random play from the game plan. Possibly checks for IN and/or DI of QB and middle LB. Might be similar to how “audibles” work, but we lack insight since we’ve never used them.
Could be tested by dramatically reducing those attributes and see how the frequency of these playcalls is impacted.

Gotta be something like that Justin.
The issue with GLP D's is they sell out for short plays and get burnt easy when miss called

Re: What We Have Here is Failure to Communicate
If Justin is correct and this is on 3rd and 4th downs primarily, I could see HUGE mismatches between a GLP defense and a T Lob or some other long pass play. Granted you might get extra pressure that would force a sack in that situation, but if you don't get home it could be a disaster.

It was 3rd and 4th downs and you are completely correct on the poor match up GLP D's can be

Someone needs to hunt down the developer and demand answers

But yeah I have seen phantom calls where the game calls a play type that was not among the three types called in the profile even when all three of the types are present in the game plan. Happens rarely but does happen.
3rd 10+ has the same defensive play calls, just different probabilities!
We need proof. Snapshot please.

I can confirm the 49ers do not have a GLP in the 3rd>10 situation
