The final standings show the tie breakers. No way Jacksonville finishes second to last then picks before the last team. Put the pipe down. Nothing to debate about, final standings shows the order.

Umm, of course we make up our own rules....it's a game!
Does the NFL have 18 teams? did they reduce?
Does the NFL have points?
Static salaries?
Do they play games on youtube?
Do they have 6 ownerless teams?
Cmon Justin, be sensible here. Oakland by the numbers is the slightly worse team.
Who cares what the NFL says. Btw, did you call the NFL league office in NY and ask someone?
Because their rule as written is unclear what it means.
But even if they say Jax gets it, your commissioner Charlie thinks Oakland gets it and Jerry and I agree.
They are the worst team by our reading of the list of NFL tiebreaks.

I'm also quite sure if Chicago did not own the Jacksonville pick, there would be no discussion.

I see where you're coming from with the point differential, but the game clearly didn't take that into account when final standings were calculated. 3-5 vs 1-7, the 1-7 team is last.

Ahhh That's where all of this is stemming from, lol. The standings show who is last, not point differential.

The NFL draft tie break assigned teams to the higher pick. Winning the tie break is bad and losing good. The tie break for Rams, Jags, and Raiders is as follows per NFL rules:

SOS- Rams win as they have the better SOS. They pick 5th. Jags and Raiders still tied
Division - Head to Head. Tied
Division - Division record Jags have better division record. They are assigned pick 4. Raiders lose and get pick 3

The NFL is assigning picks 32 to 1. You work backwards. Hence winning a tie break wins the next draft slot as it works down to 1

Ok I think Shawn and I agree that is should be Oakland at 3 and Jax at 4, so what's the big deal if the two teams involved agree?

There's really no debate, the final standings reflect the draft order. There's no tie, had all things been the same, THEN we would go to PF and PA. In this case, The divisional record shows who's the worse 5-11 team, as it's reflected in the Standings, not sure why this was even brought up for debate.

There' No TIE anywhere.

Why this was even brought up for discussion? Makes no sense. Has nothing about agreeing with each other or anything, Jacksonville was the better 5-11 team so they pick #4. Not sure what Justin was trying to debate. Had everything been a tie across the board, then his point about point differential would come into play. But the stats above show there are no tie. No need for NFL rules or anything, the game got it right.

Charlie and I discussed it, and we believe the worst team should get the pick.
We try to use the NFL as a guide but ultimately we have our own rules.
Besides, the only way to really know what the NFL would do in this identical situation would be to call the NFL offices.

Even then, we think Oakland with a 1-7 is worse than Jacksonville with a 3-5.
I think you know it too :)

As Rich noted above, we discussed the situation. For the record, I never looked at who might own either pick, if traded away, or even if the team was owned by a human or the computer. No offense to the owners, but that shit did not enter into my thought process. That process was, if there was a tie, and everything was considered, the team that was the worst in its own division gets the higher pick. Clearly, the Raiders were worst.

So let it be written, so let it be done!

Justin-Chicago wrote:Yep, that is excerpted from the current NFL rules. This is the pertinent part for Jacksonville and Oakland:

If the teams have the same strength of schedule, division tiebreakers are applied.

Jacksonville wins the divisional tiebreaker with Oakland (3-5 vs 1-7)

Yes, but since this is reverse by winning Jacksonville picks AFTER Oakland.
