Free Agent bidding

Postby James-Eagles » Tue Aug 04, 2026 4:47 pm

How about introducing a priority bidding system?

Everyone submits free-agent bidding list in order of importance. Before Free Agency opens

I would say go in draft order like NFL waivers, but unlike the draft, do it the same as a snake draft.
On each team's turn, they get to submit a bid on the person highest on their list that hasn't already had a bid submitted for them. Do this until all bids are submitted. That way there doesn't have to be a mad rush to submit bids, and it is fair

I dont think there is any need to make a mad rush to submit bids, and dont really think it matters if anyone wants to do that. Mostly it just seems like people are excited to finally be able to bid, not that there is a huge advantage to having the first bid.

I guess I could just be ignorant or bad with points, but are people really rushing to be first so that they can save .5 points by being first? It has never crossed my mind until now.

James,

I agree 100%. I was informed of the slight advantage of being first to nominate a free agent to possibly save .5 point. I agree something should be tweaked, so those who aren't available right at the shotgun start aren't at any disadvantage.

I think this is similar to what you are suggesting. Sometime before free agency officially starts (2-3 days?), the worst team through the best team (like waivers) has the opportunity to bid on a 1 free agent, or XT/XR player. When free agency bidding officially kicks off, the real bidding begins and additional players can be added for bidding.

Thoughts?

How about we just start Free Agency at 3pm EST on Sunday? It seems to me that day one and the start is the biggest issue here.

That's clearly Charlie's golfin' time

How about Sunday at 9PM/6PM, or somewhere around then?

I love Larry's idea too, I will say it sounds like alot of complication to add a little bit of value. But, I'd be down to try it!

What if we made a rule that on the very first bid, someone can simply match it. If it expires matched, rich could flip a coin. If youre scared to lose the coin flip, bid more

I cant express how much i am against taking time to make any list and submit it, and then checking in here like the draft to see when it's my turn or whatever

I would go a step further and say that all deadlines are set to be Friday and give Rich all day Saturday to get stuff straight before opening next round of stuff on Sunday. This aligns almost all our deadlines for the league on the same day. Opening the next round of stuff on Sunday allows for people who work a M-F job a full day to work on league stuff before having to contend with work limitations.

Re reading what james wrote, its also possible that this doesnt effect you at all if you dont care about the mad rush. I dont need to submit a list I can just do what I always do as long as im not rushing.

So in light of that I would say im totally fine with James idea

Keep it simple.

Have a one round 18 team FA draft run as a snake draft based on finish: 1(worst team),18(champs),2,17,3,16,4,15,5,14,6,13,7,12,8,11,9,10

You keep the FA player you select for 1 point.

We then do normal FA bids beginning on a Sunday night instead of mid-day Monday.

I'm down for this.
