I don't want to talk any chnages, but might as well join in at this point>
I propose we mirror the NFL with the PNFL practice squad. PS players in the NFL do not have full contracts and are paid week to week. They are actually all cut and resigned to the PS before the season starts. To mimic that aspect, I propose all players placed on the PS have their contract years removed and have a 1 year contract only.
The NFL uses the PS to have players for practice and familiar with playbooks and some development. They are open game for the league. The PNFL has been more a place to stash young players to develop over several seasons and potentially get a free XR to have a cheap player in the rotation after several years. Moving them to one year would put most into FA each year. Small enhancement to FA talent and a little more thought into roster management

Re: Proposed PS Enhancement
Just make it you have to cut down to 53 after training camp and resign to practice squad with a 0 point contract

I don't think so. I just drafted a couple of guys with the intent of keeping them on my PS for 5+ seasons.

Re: Proposed PS Enhancement
Jerry does make an interesting point
The NFL does not get to use the PS as their minor league system.
Probably not a popular idea.

I think most people are fine with where things are but it is this thought process that players on your PS and non franchise players should be off limits. This isn't how the NFL works. In fact what we have is very team friendly.
NFL Practice Squad are not under contract two can be elevated on a weekly bases.
In the NFL there is no matching matching Washington wants a player on Denver Practice squad they can sign them to a contract and place them on their active roster. Denver has no say what so ever because all Practice Squad players are free to sign with anyone as long as it is to their active roster.
Practice Squad players are all cut and clear wavers before being signed to the Practice squad which is a weekly contract below league minimum.

Re: Proposed PS Enhancement
If people want to go to an NFL like practice squad here is my suggestion
1. do away with 0 point contracts for non- PS players
2. Teams after draft have to cut down to 53 players
3. Before training camp teams need to sign 10 PS players
Practice squad players
Have no contract
PS players can't go from active roster to PS they have to be signed with a 0 point contract.
Players can't be signed to a 0 point contract in the first 24 hours after being cut.
2 PS player can be elevated to fill in for an injury player once player is healthy player needs to be returned to the roster. If you need to elevate more than 2 those players need to be signed to your active 53 man roster cuts and
PS players can be signed by other teams like free Agents as long as being signed to active roster.

You might want to think about that.
If any team offers the player a point to sign with their active roster their contract is void and even if you match they only have a 1 season contract.

if we really wanted to be like the NFL, teams would have 90 players signed on their rosters right now…
If we really wanted to be like the NFL, training camp would really only move the needle for IN and DI…
