Team change options - your input needed

Postby Steve-Buffalo Bills » Wed Jan 15, 2025 2:49 pm

I have been in discussion with Rich about my potential team change. We were discussing the possibility that I change teams and move to the AFC East. The intent would be to provide more balance in the AFC. I'm open to this possibility but there are obvious questions that I'd like to hear from the league before any final decision is made. I don't really care which team I become if I move.

First question: Are you for or against this move/realignment? I made this a poll.

Second question: If I do move to the AFC East, who moves to the AFC West? Rich suggested Matt (Jags), but I'm not sure that is something Matt would like. Is there someone else in the division who would be interested in moving if Matt prefers to stay in the East? Basically, are any of you guys in the East willing to move to the West at all?

Third question: If I do move to the AFC East, what team would you like me to be? What team creates the most excitement or the better rivalry for the teams that remain in the division? Bills? Dolphins? Other team?

If I don't move to the AFC East as a different team, I will likely become the San Diego Chargers and stay in the AFC West.

Why not swap Pitt and Jax since Matt is ok to move?

Is the point to balance the skill-level of coaches across divisions? Or are the rosters currently just not very good in one division compared to the other? Or is it mostly veteran coaches in one division versus the other?

I'm really wondering if time solves whatever imbalance you think exists rather than the need to switch divisions, but I have no problem with you switching if you want.

Since I'm the new guy, I'd be happy to switch divisions if you think that would help solve the issue and you'd like to keep LAC - plus then I don't have to play Houston twice, whom I think there is a good chance I never beat again.

Also: I'm no way a good coach at this point despite 11-5 record, I just happened to inherit a very strong roster.

Definitely don’t underestimate yourself. You are a good coach. I envy your defense.

The ‘balance fix’ is more about how much teams are in playoff contention. I’ve been in the playoffs a lot. Teams in the AFC West have been in the playoffs a lot. Three teams past three seasons. The AFC East not as much historically because the Jets are so difficult to beat. Only the Jets for three seasons. Colts made it recently but was one game out this season. Patriots made it once a few seasons ago.

The balance could improve over time. Last AFC West team to move was Minnesota and they have been to the Super Bowl twice since they moved. Doesn’t mean I will have the same success. Jets could sweep me regularly too. Colts beat me this season.

Why not swap the Jets and the Raiders? LOL

Actually, getting the most balance among all the divisions is definitely desirable. Not sure why team names need to swap at all. It's not like the NFC is all in perfect alignment. The Oilers don't belong in the West. So not sure why it matters that much which city Steve plays from.

So if the Chargers are your team Steve (in the NFL at least), then stay as the Chargers and move to the East. Same would apply to the Jags.

I do think it is nice that we have all NFC teams in the NFC and AFC teams in the AFC. Outside of that, I don't think it matters much...

I would be fine with swapping divisions with the Jags AND being the San Diego Chargers unless someone totally hates the idea of the Chargers in that division. I'd see it as "When in the West, they are modern LA. When in the East, they are historical San Diego."

Rich would have to answer that. I think he had a reason. The Steelers have proven they can make life hell for the Jets. In the roll call, Donovan said he won't be able to be as active though.
