RR DEFENSE RULE FIX PROPOSAL

Here is the current rule:

Run Right
Minimum player requirements: 3DLs-3LBs; 4DLs & 2LBs; 5DLs & 1LB; 6DLs & 0LBs
 No more than 4DBs allowed
Other requirements:
 At least 7 Players (ANY) must have RUN FOCUSED defense

The math simply doesn't add up. You need 5 DBs if you build a play that meets the minimum DL/LB requirement.

I propose this modification:

Run Right
Minimum player requirements: 3DLs-3LBs; 4DLs & 2LBs; 5DLs & 1LB; 6DLs & 0LBs
 No more than 5 DBs allowed (at least 1 Safety is required)
Other requirements:
 At least 7 Players (ANY) must have RUN FOCUSED defense

The 4 DB requirement only makes sense for RRD and GR which both require 7 DL/LB.

Expanding the DB requirement to 5 DBs for RR makes the math make sense because it only requires 6 DL/LBs.

Requiring the one Safety differentiates it from RM's 5 DB requirement.

We could simply require 5 DBs (any) though as the main differentiation between RR and RM is that RM requires one less player to be run focused.

Because Charlie hates rule changes and (probably my involvement with them), the easiest way for Charlie to arbitrarily fix the RR rule is to simply require 5 DBs for RR. No safety requirement. Simply make it say 5 DBs instead of 4. RR would still be unique from RM and RRD with this one fix. And the math will make sense!

How does the math not add up? Also, couldn't you have any number of DBs be run focused? Not saying it's smart, but it CAN be done.

The rule says a minimum of 6 DL/LB and maximum of 4 DB.

The math doesn't add up. If you had a 7th DL/LB, it's the same as RRD. And if the only way to have 4 DB is to have 7 DL/LB, why not flat out say that.

What I'm saying is these two play types (RR and RRD) are essentially the same with the rules currently written. With the 4 DB restriction on RR, it will always require 7 DL/LB which basically makes it a RRD play. This can be fixed by simply saying RR can have a maximum of 5 DBs instead of 4.
