Ok Good Free Agents aren't going to happen. I am sorry RIch but if you cut the points to a point where we can't resign starters than we won't have enough points to bid on those starters. The points system will never work as a cap because Joe Burrows(5 yr 275) contract cost the same as Joe Mixon(2 yr 11.5). I am sorry every coach that has all these ideas for a good Free Agent market but not happening. You will always only be replacing the bottom half of your roster at best.
Look at it this way you have Roughly 30-35 starters what you will always resign if you have the points plus 7 draft picks with 4 year contracts) Figure 3 years to start a rookie that give you about 18-24 players on rookie contracts that aren't starters. Basically you are looking at the free agent maker being about the bottom 10 or so of your 53 man roster. So when you bid on free Agent you are bidding on players that will most likely will only play a game or two at best.

That being said there are too many bad GM who aren't very good coaches. Making system where Free Agency would work would only hurt the bad team. It basically create fish for the sharks to feed on.

Instead of capping points, we should be capping restructures. If we said teams can only restructure 8 players in the off season, then we'll spend more points to make those contracts longer and use our tags as much as possible. The rest go to free agency.

As for Chicago and Detroit, we can make a rule that once you accumulate over 50 points, those should be spent on long term contracts, not trades.

There are ways to fix this without too much damage.

James is correct on the star players. I never asked for a FA with stars. Just one where there are some signable players cut a little. The points can be a perfectly fine soft cap if set to the right number and not moved between teams. No need to over think it. Keep it simple. The right amount each season and no trading. Walking it back with James to be fair is the only creative part and it is temporary.
