Play design challenge - Short Passing

Postby Dean-Atlanta » Mon May 22, 2023 2:01 pm

I challenge anyone to create a PSL, PSM or PSR play that does one of the following:

75% completions with 7.5 yards per catch
70% completions with 8.0 yards per catch
85% completions with 6.5 yards per catch

And do it without it being a timed pass.

Anyone think they can do this?

That's easy! I'll just take a current play that meets the criteria, substitute a player and submit it as a new play.

It should be impossible to create a play that is on average that successful. To do it against a particular style of D plays maybe.

Do you think that it is impossible at the time to create a short passing play that meets those kinds of numbers? And either way why do you say that it should be impossible to create a play that is on average that successful?

The closest place I have seen to these numbers are the KC sloT plays, which is why I stated in the challenge that it would be check receiver plays that are not timed passes, I still have doubt that any of us could create a short passing play that is that successful against our current defensive schemes.

If plays to meet that standard were possible on average we could stop playing the game. Offense would be automatic.

I have a better challenge...

I challenge anyone to find and add (1-5) PSL, PSM and PSR plays to their plan that does one of the following:

70% completions with 8.0 yards per catch
75% completions with 7.5 yards per catch
85% completions with 6.5 yards per catch

And do it without it being a timed pass.

Anyone think they can do this?

Because that is the definition of coaching.
And guess what, week to week those plays have already been created and are sitting in the folders.
You just have to find them each week.

Rich gets it. Find and make the plays that work against what your opponent does in a given week

I answered that question already. Just the KC sloT plays.
