Denver Broncos: New Owner Intro/Bio

Hello fellow PFNL Owners,

My name is Neil Santos and I am the new owner of the Denver Broncos. On one hand I'm a FBPRO veteran and on the other I'm a complete novice. I played in a number of FBPRO95 leagues back in the day and was reasonably successful, but I never upgraded to '98 and I stopped playing after computers/operating systems left '95 behind and the associated online leagues died out. A few months ago I came across DosBox and rediscovered some old games including FBPRO. I've been experimenting with some solo league ideas, but it's not the same as playing with others so I did some research and found the PNFL. I recently invested in an old refurbished desktop with a 3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/Windows XP and picked up a copy of '98. It took me awhile to get it installed properly, but the game seems to be running now without any issues and since the PNFL had an opening I thought this would be a good time to get back into a league.

Now here is the novice part: I haven't played in a league in over 20 years, I don't have any competitive experience with '98, and I've never played in a league with a salary cap (I've glanced through the Contracts file and frankly not a whole lot made sense to me!), but the worst part is that I've already learned that my beloved old '95 plays (upgraded to '98) will be worthless in the PNFL. I suspect that this is a combination of play editor/game engine differences between the two games and 20+ years of play design advancement in the PNFL. I hate to be *that guy* but in order to be even slightly competitive I will have to raid the league's database of plays while I learn the 'new' game. I hope to contribute some original ideas in the future but I just don't know what to expect yet.

Btw, as a long time real-life Raiders fan, it kinda sucks to inherit the Broncos...but at least it's not the Chiefs ;)

Neil

PS Thanks to all of you for keeping the game alive for so long!

Welcome to the League! While you get your arms around '98 and the PNFL, you should just leverage the PPPs already associated with Denver. They have been beating most of the division this season. ha!

Welcome Neil, feel free to email me with any issues regarding the rules and how we do our business.
Good luck and yeah I think riding the PPPs that came with Denver is the smart move right now :)

Never fails. I draw the new guy the week I play the now not so headless horseman.
Welcome Neil. Maybe I do need to think about losing out for that #1 pick lol.

Welcome Neil. The rules are easier than they seem. They become second nature quickly. This is not the old VFL. No single player wrecking everyone. This is about the whole roster and game planning. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks Mitch, do you have any investing advice? :(

Ha! Those PPPs have the Broncos tied for the best record in the league. You must have cursed them this week.

Welcome top the PNFL Neil.

I also played in the days of the 95 version of the games. Many of the plays from 95 don't work as well but are not entirely worthless. At least many of the ideas in them can be reworked and revamped for the 98 game. Many of the plays we still use are based on and influenced by the plays from back then. As you look through the plays commonly used you will see that.
