We want to simplify things (especially for new coaches) and yet open up more coaching differentiation...here is a radically simple but re1ally sensible replace for ALL our current game plan rules:

Offense game plans must:

* include at least four unique play in any category used
* Must include RM, PSL, PSM, PSR, PML, PMM, PMR, and PLR
* Must include 40 unique plays in each half'
* No more than 2 rollouts or timed passes or QB runs per category

Defense gam eplans must:
* Include at least four unique plays in any category used
* Must include RL, RM, RR, PS, PM, PL
* Must include 40 unique plays in each half
* No than 2 R&S 2-DL plays per category where they are allowed

Thoughts on this?

For profile rules, the radically simple rules would be:

Defense the rules are already radically simple:

3rd down 2-5 yds
Between OFF 5 & DEF 5 PS (MANDATORY)

3rd down 6-10 yds
Between OFF 5 & DEF 5 PM (MANDATORY)

3rd down Greater than 10 yds
DEF 35 to OFF 5 PL (MANDATORY)

Make them radically simple on offense:

3rd down 2-5 yds
Between OFF 5 & DEF 5 PSR (MANDATORY)

3rd down 6-10 yds
Between OFF 5 & DEF 5 PMR (MANDATORY)

3rd down Greater than 10 yds
DEF 35 to OFF 5 PLR (MANDATORY)

Use of PLR and PDR only on downs 10+ or when there are 5 minutes left in the half.

That;s it. Everything is coach's choice. Rules no longer legislate away coaching discretion.

There should be a mandatory to have a run on 1st and 2nd down.

How about there is no problem to look at and thus no changes needed. Rich was on some of that Arizona Peyote when he started this thread I think. :) This has always been a unique league with a unique mission. Seems like we are trying to ruin the golden goose to me............

Ruin it or improve it? The problem is working with a games created in 1997 that simulates football as it was played back then. The ideal solution is a patch to the game that upgrades it toi Football Pro 22, that improves the AI, making most play design rules obsolete, and simulates football as it is currently played. Since we do not have that, the ideas for change and an attempt to preserve what we have and keep it from becoming too dated and antiquated. Taking the "if ain't broke don't fix" is a recipe for failure. We must embrace change to insure the league remains successful.

Not really. There is a reason this is the last real league around and it isn't turning it into the others that are dead. If that y'alls vision and improvement have fun with it.

That misunderstands why the other have died, which is because they (like us) are based on a game that has not been updated since 1998. No one advocating changes want to make the PNFL like the old school leagues nor like any dead leagues.

In the meantime, resisting all change won't work either. We can't just continue to "party like it's 1999" and expect that to last forever.

As I said, I think this is a good subject to debate and discuss. However, I believe we need to be careful not to hastily cometely change the league dynamics.

The play categoies have been blurred because we deviated from the VPNFL concepts of personell differentiation between play categories. Granted, that was done years ago in an effort to look more like the current NFL.

One thing that would be helpful to me is if we had R&S offensive folders like we have R&S defensive folders. Any play with 4 or more WRs would be part of the R&S folder.

Ex: any 4 or more WR plays that are approved as PML would be part of the R&S PML folder.

No matter how hard we try, we won't be able to mimic the current NFL styles.
