The Swift Ratings editor allows you to input "realism" variables to simulate what you are talking about, James.

1) Random "Busts" for 1st round picks - 2 1st round picks have 2 POT pts reduced. No more than 1 pt for a category.

2) Random "Holdouts" for 1 round picks - 3 1st round picks demand 5 pts to sign prior to training camp.

I think both of these ideas a really bad and would never vote for either of them. This would only further devalue rookies and draft picks. And add more unnecessary complication to the GM role.

A giant NO on both from me.

The randomness element is already PLENTY built into FBPro98 already. Ever notice how we have plays that seem to play much better than their attributes indicate (e.g. Benny Snell Jr) or players with solid ratings are bust and sit in the FA pool, such as Patrick Mahomes.

PNFL has more than enough complexity, we don't need more. FBPro98 has plenty of randomness to it, that is one of its strengths. No need to "fix" the game in an area that is not broken.

@Dean - Do you like having random boosts?

I think we voted on that several seasons ago before you joined and I voted against it. I didn't really see any major need for it.

For once, I'm with Dean. I've been looking to keep a basic structure and simplify things a bit. I love the GM side, but see no reason to add much more than we have currently. I just see no need for it at this point in the league.

Gentlemen, we started the Random Boost many seasons ago under what I will call the Tom Brady concept (every season one or more later-round draft picks busts into the spotlight in the NFL). We tried to simulate that with the Random Boost. Alternatively, one or more higher-round picks in the NFL always turn out to be a bust (e.g. Oakland Raiders 1st Round, 1st Pick QB JaMarcus Russell). After some discussion, we discarded the Random Bust idea as no one wanted to take the risk of a hit on a potentially good player. As far as next season, I will work on a couple of ideas.

I don't know if I like the random bust idea. The point of my suggestion is that it's informed and assigned to the player. If we are talking random player in the first round is a bust I am 100% against this. I for one don't believe in the draft as a crap shoot. I think some team know how to scout and some don't.
