SOLVED: Disk space warning

Postby Brian-Broncos » Sun Nov 01, 2026 11:40 pm

Fix for the false “needs at least 30 MB of disk space” warning

  1. Download FbPro98-diskspace.sdb (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yStCwEodA2bU8Zvz3qo2kXqSszuEi9h8/view?usp=sharing) and save it somewhere, such as a "C:\PNFL\Utilities\FbPro98 disk space fix".
  2. Click Start, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
  3. Change the path to where you saved the file and run the install command:

    Code: Select all

    cd "C:\PNFL\Utilities\FbPro98 disk space fix"
    sdbinst FbPro98-diskspace.sdb
If you ever want to uninstall it, run the same command with -u:

Code: Select all

cd "C:\PNFL\Utilities\FbPro98 disk space fix"
sdbinst -u FbPro98-diskspace.sdb

This is not a hack or a patched game file. Windows ships a compatibility fix named EmulateGetDiskFreeSpace specifically for this disk space issue. Installing the .sdb file just tells Windows to apply that fix to Hike.exe. I made the it with Microsoft’s own Compatibility Administrator tool. It changes nothing in the game folder and it's fully reversible.

Disclaimer: The warning was not showing up for me at the time I created this fix of course, so hopefully it actually works. :P

I will try that tomorrow. It would be greatr to get rid of that thing.

Ran it. Hope it works. Won't know for a day or so obviously.

Every launch of FBPRO for me requires me to mount the ISO *only way I could get it to work on WIN11), so at least we'll know soon if it works in this situation.

THANKS!!!

This is a separate issue. Even with game settings applied so the game CD isn't required, the game still checks that the system has an optical drive for copy-protection. Mounting any ISO works.

Been a day or so. No sign of the 30MB pop up message. You truly solved it!
