The purge removes all free agents over a certain age. It is supposed to be that anyone who isn't on a 63-man roster that is 5+ years old is removed from the file.

Draft class is going to keep getting nerf slowly to help create more of grap in talent. Though I think Jerry might be right about that.

I think that most people missed one of the benefits of my aging proposal! Instead of Rich’s physical exams, and the possible transfers, and the dreaded red box of retirement, under my proposal, retirement would only take place at the start of the new season, the Rich purge of players five years and more.

My suggested random attribute hit(s) would take place at the beginning of a new season; in effect, it would be like each team holding a combine to see the status of the returning players. The older players like CB2 lost a step in SP; S1 lost a step in AC; DE1 lost a step in AG and ST, and so on. Now, the team determines if they want to keep him or cut him to the FA Pool, where a team might pick him up. No takers, he gets purged when the new season button is pressed. This way, the League determines retirement when no one needs him anymore, when he ages enough, and his attributes are no longer competitive. Some will age faster than others, depending on which attributes get hit, and the teams will determine value by individual player algorithms.

I understand it. I just want to play football. What we had was working, and numbers verify it, but it wasn't enough. It's an interesting concept, but I don't like the idea of being told to accept this or we keep a broken retirement system we broke. The thing is there is no patience to let things work, and people keep messing with it. Why would I support more things for you to keep changing? Let's just play ball.

Scratch that. Not at all huge. Still 781 players in free agents pool after the purge. That number unexpected to go down in subsequent seasons.

I get it - the larger spread of numbers will reduce the quality of the pool (and may even be noticeable in another six or seven seasons). And the free agent pool will still contain ≈800 players. And the free agent pool will still be on par to our rosters. I hope I'm wrong.

I am not sure why you are worried about the number of players in the FA pool. Most of them don't matter. The NFL has a whole other league as a free agent pool. That being said, I am pretty sure the old free agent pool was close to 2k.

Because the ones that do matter, and there are dozens of dozens of them good enough to make an active roster, make the draft, trades, points, roster management in general, nearly, if not completely, meaningless. Does the league want those to be meaningless? Clearly, it must, which is unfortunate.
