With the start of the new season, I need a quick opinion on new Custom Plays!
Although the rules do not require it specifically, should the Primary receiver for Medium passes be greater than 10-yards, but not more than 20-yards from the LOS? For example, I am receiving Pass Medium plays where the Primary receiver is less than 10 yards from the LOS. In my opinion, these are Short Passes. The downside of letting this stand is that the Medium category becomes an extension of the Short category.
Some quick responses would be appreciated.

I agree with you. Primary receiver should be between 10-20 yards out.

I agree that 10-20 yards should be considered medium passes

I agree that 10-20 yards should be considered medium passes; however, let's look at the other ramifications of this. Are we going to purge the plays that are not a minimum of 10 yds from the medium pass pool?
If we enacted this rule change, I would say that plays that are currently in the pool are grandfathered in for now, but a study needs to be done to see how many plays would be impacted if these were removed from the Pass Medium pool. Alternatively, instead of removing them, we could just convert to Pass Shorts, but either way, we may end up with a shortage of Pass Medium plays.

I think it should be 5-20 for PM to allow more flexibility for play designers and options for style of plays, There are times where a WR catching a pass at 8 yards goes longer in certain play designs.

Ideally I say 5-30 for PM but that's another issue.
And 30+ for PL, 40+ for PRD

Re: Rule Opinion re:Pass Short/Medium
First, we are not going backward and purging plays. We are only going forward with new plays submitted.
Second, if we expanded the yardage to 5-20 or 5-30 then what is the purpose of the passing zones?
Specifically written or not in the rules, intuitively we all (or at least most of us) relate to a Short pass as being something less than 10 yards from the LOS at the catch point and a Medium pass as being something between 10 and 20 yards from the LOS at the catch point regardless of the play design that might result in something more. As such, a Medium pass is designed to gain at least 10 yards.
In its simplest form, the proposal is that the catch point of a Medium pass for the Primary receiver is between 10 and 20 yards from the LOS.

My first impression is, I don't like it. Completion percentages are too low as is. The medium categories should be an extension of the short categories, if one chooses to do so.

I’m good with Pass Mediums being 10 to 20 yards and wouldn’t mind seeing that extended to 25 yards.

10 to 20...
Too many current PM plays have YPC under 10 yards with 60%+ comp%. That's a short pass...
