Use the coach's initials for play naming...

If we do that, and we definitely could...

All my plays get converted to DC
A;; NYG, OR etc. plays submitted by Shawn become SH
Everything LA, LAC, AZ submitted by Steve becomes SC
Charlie's stuff becomes CR
Rich's Atl and BB stuff becomes RC
All the CC and DC stuff Justin submitted would JA or JT?

What do we do with plays submitted by former PNFL coaches? Make them all PX?

We will not start allowing all the crazy names going forward.
The last 2 (Chicago/Anaheim) were not much of a stretch and have caused no harm.

The Rams played in a stadium located in Anaheim but they were still called the LA Rams.

The Chicago Cardinals played in that city 1920-1959 before moving to St. Louis and then eventually Arizona.

I would vote for thew following:

Chicago Cardinals either moves to Arizona or become the Bears.

The Rams become the LA Rams and play in same stadium

If anyone asks to be the Houston Oilers, they should either be the Tennessee Titans (the team that was the Oilers) or the Houston Texans.

New team moves should involve adopting a current NFL team in their current city.

We can't actually be the "PURE NFL" in regard to these issues since FBpro98 does not support a 32 team league.

One of the first things that I noticed about the PNFL back in the day was that it had the Colts, but they had moved from Indianapolis to Baltimore and were now the Baltimore Colts. Former commissioner as I understand. https://pnfl.biz/Coaches/Isamu%20Maruhashi.html

I remember thinking it was kind of cool that the league was very much like the NFL but had a few departures from reality that had no impact whatsoever on competitive balance. Players weren't attached to their "real" NFL teams, and historical franchise from a past hometown was a viable option.

It's part of the history and culture of our league, why would we choose to uproot it?

Not sure where this entire conversation is emanating from.
It was very easy to be "Pure" in the beginning.
After 45 seasons and 24 years, have we occasionally compromised on this purity?
Perhaps. Team names/Divisions/Conferences and it was unavoidable.
Total and complete purity would likely ended the league a long time ago.

And requests for name changes are still scrutinized but Chicago Cardinals and Anaheim Rams do not offend the league office.
If someone wanted to be the Houston Oilers that would be fine too.
There was never a mandate that only teams from today's NFL are allowed.
Are we going to allow the Akron Indians and the Columbus Tigers?
No we won't. Charlie and I have always taken it case by case.

Truthfully, we have been lucky that most of the coaches who roll through this league have never tried to push the envelope very far.
Fairly like minded in keeping the history intact as best we could.

I always thought the PURE NFL in PNFL was about the style of play and mimicking the roster rules the best we can (e.g., IR rules). I never thought it was about the teams. So long as the team played in the NFL or its predecessors, I'm fine with that. If we stick the Rams with Anaheim so I don't have to use Los Angeles (A), I'm definitely fine with it. :P
