Coach Lou Holtz

Postby Dean-Atlanta » Sat Jan 28, 2023 9:43 pm

As you all know from listening to This Week in the PNFL hosted by Mark aka JB, we give Mitch a fair share of grief for his Coach Lou Holtz act.

When Holtz was coach at Notre Dame he severely underplayed how good his team was and always made it sound like the other team was the best team in college football and it would be a miracle if his Fighting Irish won the game. I think one week his team was something like 7-1 or 8-0 playing Boston College. who might have maybe 3-5. Holtz argued the BC was the best team in college football because they had beaten a team that has defeated another team, whio in turn had upset the number one ranked team earlier in the season, therefore Boston College was the best team.

Notre Dame easily beat BC that weekend, and Lou Holtz earned his legendary status for this kind of schtick.

That being said, I remember one season Notre Dame was I think 7-4 and still got a bid to play in the Sugar Bowl, and reportedly someone asked Coach Holtz what was the difference between Notre Dame and Cheerios...answer, of course, was the latter belongs in a bowl.

Do you believe me now? I told everyone LA was the best team in the AFC and it was an honor to just share the field with them. :)

We don't meet on the field next week as we both thought might well happen, but I think we can put a good bet on the probability of match between the Falcons and your team next season.

As a 7-9 playoff team. New England might get a fairly strong schedule that might seem unfair for a 7-9 team. Seattle and Denver might avoid some ofd the tougher NFC teams getting on their schedule, which could help their campaigns for a playoff spot in 2042.
