I may start Lock over Tua of this week against the Jets. He is slightly better by the ratings. Steve, I thought you determined the QB ratings didn’t matter much anyway and that’s why you drafted Robinson.

Ryan Finley is still on the block - although his price may go up...
Oh and his non-trade clause vs teams has kicked in... sigh

If QB ratings do not matter then Hendon Hooker is the best QB in the league, without a doubt, and should be starting this weekend.

Ratings matter... You should always prefer to have higher overall rated players than your opponent. However, spreads are so thin from the highest rated player to the lowest rated player that you have to determine how much more value you are getting for over paying for a higher rated player.

If you are paying 300% more for a player that is only 1% to 3% better, is that the best decision? In my opinion, no.

In the case of Lock, this is quite accurate

I partly drafted Robinson because I'm a UCLA fan. Plus, he matches what I'm looking with that 96 ST & 87 EN and has that same low IN my current QBs seem to still do well with. He likely backs up Justin Herbert permanently once Kizer's time in LA is over. Both Herbert and Robinson need more TC, but Herbert is kind of ready now. His 87 EN gives him an edge over Kizer in keeping his ratings decent later in games - I may start Herbert for all future road games.

These are the top 6 QBs in the league statisitically as of week 3:

Code: Select all

Name                 Yr  Att  Com   Pct    Yds  Avg  Lg  TD Int   Rtg Sks-Yds
1 Evans, Jerod   NE  11   79   54  68.4    481  6.1  40   6   0 109.7   1-5
2 Jones, Mac     NYJ  3   93   61  65.6    701  7.5  54   6   0 109.7   3-13
3 Darnold, Sam   CHI  9   85   51  60.0    628  7.4  75   9   2 108.4  12-69
4 Kirk, James    JAX 13   61   39  63.9    470  7.7  45   2   0  98.4   4-22
5 Haskins, DwayneANA  8   61   38  62.3    481  7.9  56   2   0  97.8   5-16
6 Barriere, Eric LVR  2   64   35  54.7    544  8.5  49   4   1  97.4   2-6

Here are their current actuals:
A QB2 3 Jerod Evans OK 11 0-0 0
81 81 79 94 69 87 91 84
A QB1 1 Mac Jones OK 3 0-0 0
80 77 78 96 69 86 91 83
A QB1 3 Sam Darnold OK 9 0-0 0
81 81 81 96 70 86 91 83
A QB1 6 James Kirk OK 13 0-0 0
78 78 79 95 68 87 92 84
A QB1 5 Dwayne Haskins OK 8 0-0 0
78 80 79 96 71 86 91 84
A QB1 7 Eric Barriere OK 2 0-0 0
78 78 78 95 68 86 92 83

They clearly all have 86 or 87 EN and 83 or 84 DI. Most have 91 IN. Few have 70+ HA. Their SP/AG/AC is basically 78+. Other than Evans and Barriere, most have a 96 ST.

Here are my QBs:
A QB1 1 DeShone Kizer OK 11 0-0 0
81 79 80 96 71 86 90 83
A QB2 2 Justin Herbert OK 6 0-0 0
79 80 79 96 69 87 90 83
IR QB 4 Dorian Robinson OK R 0-0 0
80 78 80 95 70 87 85 83

They are basically the same as all 6 of those QBs except they don't have at least 91 IN. I could arguably trade away Kizer and would likely do fine with Herbert at this point.

Here are Minnesota's two QBs:

A QB1 7 Drew Lock OK 7 0-0 0
79 81 80 95 71 84 92 84
A QB1 7 Tua Tagovailoa OK 5 0-0 0
79 79 80 95 71 84 92 84

Lock is an upgrade because of his higher AC. They are duplicates in every other way. Lock should start until Tua can catch up through more TCs. You're welcome, Barney.

Lock is overall 0.3% better than Tua, but he is 2.5% better than Tua in AC. His passes will have slightly more power behind them than Tua's.

Tua is currently the 8th best QB statistically. Lock will eventually take his place there.

Both QBs have 84 EN and the ideal IN/DI ratings. If either of them eventually move up into the top 6, then even low EN doesn't matter for QBs.

If that happens, then the argument once again becomes: Does the OL, WRs and plays used matter far more than the QB's ratings.

My argument against plays mattering is that we as a league have collectively identified the best plays and collectively use them. Furthermore, we have identified the best routes and we rarely see any new, amazing routes, so custom pass plays in FBPRO have essentially hit a plateau.

I completely overhauled my preparation this season. I now randomly pick the minimum number of plays for each play category and let it ride.
