My idea is this....
#1
I would take more control of the creation where nobody sees the players potentials
#2
I would mask all the potentials by assigning 99 to all of them temporarily.
#3
Then, weeks before the draft I would release combine grades for all 8 attributes.
#4
I would assign 8 letter grades for every player, every potential attribute.
#5
For example, a WR would receive an A in speed if his potential is 83-84....B for 81-82....C for 80 or lower.
All these ranges would be known ahead of time.
#6
All the information you would have about the players is, their actual talent and these letter grades.
B-A-C-A-B-B-B-C
This would essentially mask the full potential of all players even though you could determine fairly well who might be a top talent and who won't. It would require coaches to do their work.
After the draft, I release the actual potentials and you see how you did.
Personally, I think it would make it more fun and random without this certainty you got the best player on the board on every pick.
Go ahead and kill me

Re: Draft Idea
If you created all the rookies and you were the only one that knew the potentials, you could easily upload files with the rookies all having 99 pots to mask them, and then release the real pots right after the draft. This could be easily done if most coaches want this.
The idea of converting the actuals to grades and hiding those numbers, which most of us would convert to numbers to run analysis in spreadsheets, is much more work for ALL of us than is worth any perceived benefit.
I'm not against change but change should have benefit.

Re: Draft Idea
Alternatively, you disclose the ACTs of all players and zero for POTs. After the Draft, I would run a random number generator for each attribute with the low number being the ACT and the high number being the Max POT for that category.

Well, you could change those grades to numbers but you still would not have it right.
I did not say A = 84, there would be 2 numbers = A, 2 numbers = B
Therefore the idea is make it impossible for anyone to know exactly what their potential is.
A WR could be 84-86-91-66-96 or he could be 83-85-90-65-95 which is a huge difference. One WR is the #1 pick and the other is late first or 2nd rd pick.
The benefit is making it less predictable instead of 18 guys with their excel spreadsheets selecting to perfection.
That is why going back to draftsock also does this because a running clock creates mistakes.
It just feels like coaches do not want to go back.
Coaches want lots and lots of time to make perfect selections, which is hardly like the NFL.

That would be too random.
In the NFL, teams have combines and past games to judge these players and they have a pretty good feel for who hits and misses.
Certainly not perfect but it should not be completely random. If it were, the draft becomes selecting based 100% on actuals.

Re: Draft Idea
The easiest way is to go back to draftsock, turn the clock and heat on and draft away.
With some strict rules of send in your lists because if you suddenly lose internet, we skip you.
This means less trades and more errors which I always preferred.
The drafts now are orderly but predictable. No drama.

I would love to do draft sock again. If we can get it working reliably. That was my favorite way to draft. I also had past leagues that did forum, but at a known time, just because draft sock was unstable...
The only problem I have with this idea is if there are coaches that have to work during the time when most can draft. That is a little bit of a hinderance and puts that coach behind rest that are able to attend.

#1 overall pick 2041, #1 overall pick 2042 => made the playoffs...

And therein lies the draftsock problem.....getting all 18 coaches in the same room.
I never had a stability problem with the program though.
