Please answer this then...

I went 10-6 and made the playoffs in 2041, and in the 2042 schedule I played the Jets. That makes sense.

In 2042 I go 7-9 and miss the playoffs, as I should have, but I have the Jets on my 2043 schedule, based on coming in THIRD place in the NFC East. How does that make sense? I should have played IND instead.

I do understand I play Chi (and the other 4 NFC West teams) every season whether I go 0-16 or 14-2 or anything in between.

Because the Jets have to play 5 teams in the NFC. That means they play 2 teams in the west and 3 teams in the east. You didn't have to play LA or Minnesota which were the top teams in the NFC West. So it make sperfect sense. THe Schedules have been this way for over a decade.

THe schedule is simple

AFC East 1 Plays East 1 2 and 3. West 1 and 2
AFC East 2 Plays east 1 2 and 4 West 1 and 2
AFc East 3 Plays East 1 3 and 4 west 3 and 4
AFC east 4 playes East 2 3 4 west 3 5
AFC west 1 plays east 1 and 2 west 1 and 2
AFC west 2 plays east 1 and 2 west 1 and 2
AFC west 3 plays east 3 West3 4 5
AFC West 4 plays NFC east 3 and 4 and west 4 and 5
AFC West 5 plays east 4 west 3 4 amd 5

NFC East 1 Plays East 1 2 and 3. West 1 and 2
NFC East 2 Plays east 1 2 and 4 West 1 and 2
NFc East 3 Plays East 1 3 and 4 west 3 and 4
NFC east 4 playes East 2 3 4 west 3 5
NFC west 1 plays east 1 and 2 west 1 and 2
NFC west 2 plays east 1 and 2 west 1 and 2
NFC west 3 plays east 3 , 4 and West3 and5
NFC West 4 plays NFC east 3 and west3 4 and 5
NFC West 5 plays east 4 west 3 4 amd 5

This is not hard yest you might go 2-14 and be 3rd and the east and have to play the Jets. It sucks to suck but honestly making it tied to record or playoff would be way to hard when east and west play a different number of non-conference and division games.

To give everyone an idea the outline of these schedule have been in effect since 2020 season. Before that we had teams not playing all the division games and not playing everyone in the conference. The schedule was done with a few things in mind.

1. Everyone plays everyone in their division twice home and away
2. Everyone plays everyone in conference to make tie breaker easier
3. No playing anyone back to back
4. No more than 3 home game or road game in a row.
5. Create a schedule that Rich can just put teams in based on how they finish and have an instant schedule. No need to juggle or rearrange
6. Your schedule would be easier the lower you finished in your division that it can be made without spending hours and hours making a schedule that fits the above.

Is it perfect no Dean has to play people who can beat him. Well that just means Dean has to have games on his schedule. yes team with losing records will have to play Jets and Chicago as out of conference games.

Just looking at Deans schedule this year
Kansas CIty (West 3) 9-7
Pittsburgh (West 4) 6-10
New York Jets (East 1) 15-1
Jacksonvile (East 4) 2-14
New England (East 3) 6-10
Total 38-42
That means they play 2 out of conference game gainst teams with better record and 3 against teams with worst records. COmpared to New York Giants Schedule who finished second in the east

Los Angeles (West 1) 11-5
Minnesota (West 2)9-7
New York jets(East 1) 15-1
Indianapolis (East 2)9-7
Jacksonville(East 4)2-14
Total 46-34

Washington 50-30

NFC east non conference SoS
Washington 50-30
New York 46-34
Atlanta 38-42
Detroit 31-49

Chicago 44-20
San Fran 44-20
New Orleans 22-42
Seattle 23-41
Anahiem 22-42

AFC East
Jets 49-31
Indy 47-33
New England 36-44
Jacksonville 32-48

NFC West
LA 42-22
Min 42-22
KC 24-40
Pit 24-40
LV 23-41

I think that is pretty good SoS of non conference for a set schedule that is just plug and play. Atlanta had the 5th easiest schedule they tied for the 5th best record in the conference.

I don't complain about threw schedule and was not intending to do so. I just raised the question of how a 3rd place team plays the best team in the other conference. We should be able to play any team in the league if we are aiming to be competitive.

Stay traditional as is to stay aligned to the ‘Pure NFL’ basis of the league.

If we change the schedule in any way, we should have an 18 week schedule with the one bye week just like the NFL. I don’t know if the schedule utility will let us add two weeks though.

The schedule framework we have right now seems to work just fine for the league right now for alot of reasons others have said

but

If there was a three to four season plan to grow the league through expansion I could see creative scheduling being necessary to navigate game constraints (two 12-team leagues in FBPro?) and I would support any alternate schedule formats during that time that would help us grow the league.

@Justin - there isn't a 24 team format supported by FBPRO. We will have to go to 28 teams with 6 divisions or 30 teams with 6 divisions.

I'd love to have the old 28 team format.

Charlie wouldn't even have to change the current draft format. We currently have 300+ players in the draft pool each cycle. With 28 teams in a 7 round draft, that less than 200 players drafted giving well over 100 undrafted FAs each cycle.

In fact, that would help create more spread among the ratings of players on rosters.

That’s exactly my point Mitch. 24 teams would be an intermediate step but it’s not supported by the game. So, split into two 12-team leagues (take the 6 weakest teams plus 6 expansion teams in one) and go AFL-NFL style, only playing each other in the championship, then a few seasons incorporating promotion / relegation until we’re ready for the jump to 28 or 30.
