GLR defense

Postby Steve-LA Chargers » Mon Dec 25, 2023 3:23 pm

Moving this to its own thread so it’s easier to find.

Been talking to Charlie. He seems open to a slight, reasonable modification to the GLR defensive guideline to ensure 3DL are allowed. Only updates to existing guideline are in bold.

Goal Line Run
Minimum player requirements: 3DLs-4LBs; 4DLs-3LBs; 5DLs & 2LBs; 6DLs & 1LB & 7DLs & 0LBs.
 No more than 4DBs allowed.
Other requirements:
 At least 6 Players (ANY) must have RUN FOCUSED defense, which includes ‘Reads’.
 At least 6 Players (all DL and ANY other) must defend the LOS.

Basically we can allow 3DL GLR because the requirement of 6 players defending the LOS and 6 players executing run focused defense ensures a majority of the players try to stop the goal line run. With 4 LBs required for a 3 DL GLR, it still has a lot of ‘beefy’ players too.

I think this could be writen better as
Atleast 3 DL
no more than 4 DBS.
Those requirement would incompass all the minimum player requirements.

To be clear, there are no rules, plans, or profile changes here! We are talking about certain requirements for Custom plays in the future. This only impacts those submitting Custom plays and my time to review them.

I see no issue with this. Just cleaning up and a more flexibility while keeping the principle the same.
