TE ratings

The VPNFL system was created in the late 1990s to be realistic for NFL football 1998-2000. That game has changed a lot since then. OUr TEs are basically blocking TEs, definitely NOT Travis Kelce type TEs.

There are the current ratings we use for TEs:

What does everyone think? Would you draft TEs that look like this? Note that they are NOT monster players or outside our current talent model. This still is based on max TE at 696 points and a typical veteran TE around 681 points.

I agree that the game has changed and there are a lot of "hybrid" players based on the style of schemes teams run.

A few seasons ago we increased MAX HA for TE up to 90 to create more pass catching TEs. Well, if you look at the past few drafts, a lot if the TEs have HA rating of 88-90. If we moved HA to 95 for TE, I recommend that very few would have MAX ratings because suddenly all TEs are pass-catching TEs.

We can make an argument that HB need better hands since more HB are used in the NFL passing game. We can argue the LBs and TEs should have a slightly higher SP rating.

However, in my opinion, this all comes back to having a wider variation of ratings between players.

If our average WR SP was around 79 (4.55 40 time) with avg hands of 90, then a TE with MAX SP and MAX HA would be the anomaly like Travis Kelce.

The software will never allow us to replicate the on field piece that way. TE's like Kelsey are open because of their size and the formations and the defensive players shapes and sizes. FBPRO players tackle way better and there is thus less mismatches so to speak. I do not think we can tweak to mirror the NFL in this case. I've been fine with some of the TE tweaks for more involvement, but we cannot turn the TE's into the better WR, which is not true with Kelsey either. He is not better than WR's at WR things. I could only live maybe a once in a blue moon TE in the draft with a tick more HQ maybe, but the software will ultimately make the TE's just better every time if you narrow the attributes.

I'm with Jerry on this one. I think TEs could and should be used more via scheming though instead of ratings adjustments. You could still make use of the TEs we have to catch passes and be successful I believe.
