I'm conducting additional experiments today. In these experiments, I'm adjusting the ratings of the WRs, HB and OL to gauge what impact the supporting cast has on QB stats.

My hypothesis is the unlike the NFL, PNFL QBs are not able to raise the level of play of their team. Hence, a MAX rated PNFL QB will perform much worse with a lower rated supporting cast.

The best way I can describe it is like cillege QBs. There are high performing college QBs that never make it in the NFL. I think their college stats are inflated due to the supporting cast talent being far superior then the opponent

We shall see...

Here's my analysis:

1) Even with all ratings 10 points below MAX, a QB surrounded by a strong supporting cast does nearly as well as a MAX QB with a strong supporting cast.
2) Weaker supporting casts appear to reduce Comp%, increase INT% and increase Sack%.
3) Since all of our QBs in the PNFL are within 5 points or less of MAX, it doesn't matter who plays QB because the supporting cast on all teams is within 5 points or less of MAX.
4) QBs in FBPRO do not lift the performance of other players in the way an NFL QB might do.
5) A rating spread of 10 points for all players will create more variance in performance.

Boooooooom! This analysis nails it I think. QBs DON'T REALLY MATTER. It's the supporting cast of players that matter. And in this league, there is not enough differentiation between supporting casts, so I could conceivably win a lot of games with a QB like DTR if I had no choice but to use him. Doesn't mean I'll start him yet while I have General Kizer still eager to cement his legacy. Plus, DTR's IN is more than 6 below the max and it will take a couple of seasons to make sure it's less than 6. But when he's eventually considered ready, he probably just backs up Lock or Herbert once Kizer has retired. Regardless, this analysis proves that the only real differentiation is our profiles and game plans. We are truly a coaching league!

The numbers show your team talent matters. Maybe less individual individual player by player, but overall. So the point still matters that more team talent produces better stats. This means that the several point differences in players across a roster absolutely affects things. So Rich's little sal cap numbers would show talent advantages that matter. Also means a deeper team is likely better than a couple stud players and a lower rated roster

@Jerry - agree about overall roster talent matters over having a couple of studs. At the same, it appears our current ratings spread doesn't impact the results as much as we would like them to. A 10+ spread between MAX and MIN would impact performance more overtly.

If you want college football games and scores. Could there be an argument to drop every player down and then only allow a few max. Sure, but as you admit, Charlie and the PNFL bunch did a great job emulating the NFL from an overall game play and realistic standpoint. We have what we see on Sunday for the most part which is a relatively successful emulation of the NFL for a 1998 piece of software. based on NFL tendencies at that time which clearly is in the background algorithms. I see numbers that show the talent absolutely matters but as in the NFL is not the be all end all. Definitely do not want week 1 college type mismatches. Equal coaching, the talent will make a difference, but better talent can be overcome at times.
