Custom Play Fixes

Postby Charlie-49ers » Thu Aug 03, 2023 4:19 pm

Gentlemen, there are three of us doing extensive research on the Custom play pool! We are looking for outliers like three defenders covering the LOS, Bump at the Line issues, QB rolls that result in AI Busters, and anything else. Since these plays were developed by multiple teams, it would be too time-consuming to have those teams do fixes, or whatever, so we are going to fix them and release the new plays. If we fixed something and you disagree, forget the debate, as it is done! I am not going to debate one or two plays out of thousands anymore. BTW, there will also be deletions! If you disagree with a deleted play and you developed it, feel free to fix it and resubmit. Updates will be as we finish a category, and all will be included, or excluded, as the case may be when Rich releases the final play pool for the upcoming season.

Sounds good!

It makea sense to clean up the plays and make sure they comply to the intended guidelines.

I have designed and submitted many of the defenses that have fewer than 3 men defending ther LOS and have bump issues. I think fixing these plays will bring about more balance between offense and defense in our games and also be more conducive to continued innovation in NEW play design, keeping the play pool refreshed and updated woith new ideas, and I think this will reduce cloning of plays since coaches will not be submitting clones of thes plays with bump and/or 3 men LOS issues.

MN6XLUCKT, OR6XZIPT, OR8XZIPT and LV4ZZIPT currently violate the timed pass rule.

THE RULE SAYS
2. There is a strict limit of 15 yards on all other Timed Passes. Timed passes may not go beyond 15 yards. The Receiver of the pass may not have any logic past 15 yards. The "spot" of the pass is also limited to 15 yards beyond the LOS. The only exception to this rule is the PRD Lob passes.

I would be okay with these being resaved as PLR if we adjust the timed pass rule to state a different yardage range for PLR. Otherwise, they should go.

P03: Timed Passes

1. For Timed Lob passes saved as Pass Razzle-Dazzle (PRD) Plays, the endpoint of the Timed Lob pass must be 30-yards or greater from the LOS.
2. For timed passes saved as PLR, Timed passes may not go beyond 20 yards. The Receiver of the pass may not have any logic past 20 yards. The "spot" of the pass is also limited to 20 yards beyond the LOS.
3. For timed passes saved as PML, PMM, PMR, Timed passes (bullet or lob) may not go beyond 15 yards. The Receiver of the pass may not have any logic past 15 yards. The "spot" of the pass is also limited to 15 yards beyond the LOS. The only exception to this rule is the PRD Lob passes.

4. Timed Passes may not travel backward or “register” as runs. The marked endpoint may not be behind the passer.
5. No Player whose logic includes a "timed pass" may have a logic box that touches or extends beyond 15-yards of the LOS. Furthermore, he may not have any logic that includes any of the "run" (inside, left, to daylight, etc.) logic choices.

Clearly violate the pass zone rule for pass short passes which limits primary and secondary receiver routes to staying within 10 yards of the LOS:

In case anyone disagrees, here is the pass zone rule which has never been changed in the PNFL.

P09: Passing zones and 'look for pass' logic of primary/secondary receivers

1. In the Pass Short categories, only the Primary and Secondary receivers' paths must stay within (not on, at, or beyond) 10-yards of the LOS, the zone. A third, fourth, or fifth receiver can have their pattern go longer. The latter three receivers must have "Look for Pass" logic before they touch 10-yards from the LOS, but their path can take them anywhere.
2. In the Pass Medium categories:
o The Primary (white) receiver path and end spot must stay within (not on, at, or beyond) 20-yards of the LOS, the zone
o The Secondary (yellow) receiver path and end spot must stay within (not on, at, or beyond) 20-yards of the LOS, the zone.
o A third, fourth, or fifth receiver can have their pattern go longer than 20 yards but must have "Look for Pass" logic before they touch 20-yards from the LOS. Their path can take them anywhere.

Any work being done on the plays where the QB takes 2 steps lwft or 2 steps right and the M2M defenders freeze?

Those timed passes have been bugging me for a while. The pass zone violations started bugging me this past season when they seemed to be spreading like some kind of virus.

I would also like to see this rule added for PRD defenses. Charlie and I had discussed it back when the XFBS existed because we wanted to make PRD defenses more 'prevent' focused and less 'pass rush' focused.

Pass Razzle Dazzle defenses
No more than 4 defenders can have Blitz, Pass Rush, or move to logic across the LOS

Any plays that currently violate this proposed rule can be converted into Pass Long defenses.
