When will the bleeding stop in Atlanta?

Postby Steve-LA Chargers » Thu May 11, 2023 2:28 pm

What the hell? Apparently another Atlanta fire sale just happened. Almost every player cut by Atlanta was signed by the Giants, Chiefs or Cardinals. They all got better. But did Atlanta? I'm not so sure. I really can't stand seeing Chicago adding more talent they don't really need which we all know he only acquired to trade for picks and points in the offseason.

I couldn't stay silent watching this. It's as if once you are the coach of the Chargers, you gotta put on that Lee Bryner hat sometimes and give Dean a hard time.

Looking forward to the roasting of Dean by his co-hosts this week.

Not sure why this time. It is a bold strategy to sign what I see as PS at best players for what appears, to have players with future contract years and dump active roster caliber players.

I also hate it as it is not league friendly to drop better players for worse ones mid season. All of the signed FA's could have been signed the last week or next off season. No one else would have picked them up; so no rush.

That would be embarrassing to get swept by former backup QB DiNucci or mid season free agent pickup QB Woodside

Knowing my luck, Dean focuses his entire season on beating me next week as payback and redemption and beats his chest even more loudly if he succeeds with one of these bums as his QB.

Those two players signed by the Giants were not on my team nor recently released by my team. As for the others, I find it quite amusing that some would raise such an issue about expendable players in their last contract season that will not be signed being let go that just last week weren't even worth ONE trading point for getting them.

It's a value thing I believe. You were asking teams to invest 6.5 to 7 points for a 3 year contract while giving you some value as well or investing more than 0 for a current year only use. Points are everything and I give them more value that some others I'm sure. This is a competitive game. People weight all pieces. Kansas City jumped on DE Ledbetter as he has several years left and they got a reasonably priced contract for those years. They also did not help an opponent. That is one of the things others can consider with a trade. Do I provide value to an opponent or can I meet my needs better. None of your players had enough value for people to jump at a trade that helps their opponent and cost them more. Simple value calculations.

My question if I was on the PODCAST would be to learn the thought process behind dumping them now and weakening your team? While it's only my view on players, I see no value in the move at this point. I get you may have not resigned the ones you cut next season based on value decisions, but why now.

We all see players differently and generate our own value determinations as we work through the many roster decisions we have to make. I find it interesting to learn how others think.

Daishawn Dixon replaced G Sam Jones:

G Daishawn Dixon OK 5 0-0 0 68 65 71 97 57 85 95 96
69 66 71 97 58 86 95 96

O G3 55 Sam Jones OK 8 0-0 0 69 68 71 97 57 85 95 92
69 69 71 97 58 85 96 93

They are almost identical. Jones was not going to be signed, because I had 53/28 with 25 players needing contrtacts and maybe 12 I can afford to sign to 2 yr deals at 4 points.

John Ridgeway replaced DT Nathan Shepherd:

DT John Ridgeway OK R 0-0 0 59 53 62 96 51 84 81 87
59 55 63 97 55 86 83 91

A DT1 60 Nathan Shepherd OK 8 0-0 0 59 55 64 97 51 86 82 90
59 55 64 97 53 86 83 91

Almost identical again. Signed for 2 more seasons vs no contract.

Wyatt Hubert replaced DE Johnathan Ledbetter:

DE Wyatt Hubert OK 2 0-0 0 62 57 67 91 60 86 78 88
64 58 68 91 60 86 79 90

A DE3 61 Johnathan Ledbetter OK 7 0-0 0 64 60 69 91 60 85 80 89
64 60 69 91 60 85 80 89

Again, almost equal.

DE Anthony Nelson was on PS and was going to be there unless traded. NO ONE offered a point of a SEVENTH round pick for any of these players. The DLs signed by the Giants were not on my team. Nothing is being weakened. I am gaining 2 more seasons on three nearly equal players for just 3 points, not enough point to sogn ONE of those players to a 2 yr contract let alone all three of them.

Now please go back to being entertained by Tonya Harding and Marjorie Taylor Greene... or something more interesting and relevant, such as what Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders is doing to rebuild Colorado in college football...

Crappy players with expiring contracts replaced with crappier players with contracts through 2044 is all I saw. A decent QB traded away for a backup QB and starting quality QB cut in favor of a mediocre free agent QB (who is at least with the NFL Falcons so I kind of get it).

Who knows. Maybe you prove us all wrong. Maybe you go on a rampage with these players proving once and for all that roster talent is overrated in the PNFL - especially at QB. Good luck!

I think everyone knows I'm in favor of more differentiation between player's ratings.

However, if these players are considered equals, we have no need for GMs in the league.
